SLATE FILM CENTER

Slate Film Center is a Queens-based arts education program. At Slate Film Center we offer programming for all ages a hands-on experience, and a guide into the film industry.  We offer after-school classes, workshops, and seasonal camps. Our programs are designed to teach young filmmakers about collaborating and producing a short film. But most importantly our students will learn skills such as leadership, teamwork, communication, and time management that can be used in the film industry and beyond.

Harris Feldman and Jack Butler founded Slate Film Center in 2021, after many years working in the film industry, and teaching. They both personally know the importance of art programs and how art is an expression of oneself.  Both grew up with similar programs to Slate Film Center and understand the impact a program can leave on a child. Harris and Jack are dedicated to giving every child a platform to explore their interests.

Slate Film Center's mission is to build a community that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. We believe everyone has a story worth telling, and we want to give everyone the tools and platform to express themselves, regardless of race, sex, religion, creed, color, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, physical challenge, national or ethnic origin, ancestry or any other characteristic.

Slate Film Center is partnering up with local schools, community services, and local film festivals to immerse ourselves within the community. Slate Film Center sees a need to bring back a greater arts community to a neighborhood that has lost all 3 of its movie theaters in the past 10 years. Film and media are among the fastest-growing industries with increased demand for branded content. Slate Film Center wants to educate a next generation with industry-standard skills that will set up our local young adults for success in building their careers.
